We will always provide an estimate where possible ahead of a procedure and investigations, keeping you updated if treatment is likely to exceed the estimation.
Our veterinary team are happy to have open and honest conversations about treatment options with you for your pet, so as to provide the best possible care within the scope of financial constraints.
Veterinary Consultation
At Mayne Vets we pride ourselves on being the only clinic in Colchester to offer 20 minute consultations.
We really value being able to spend time with our clients to discuss their concerns, and most importantly our patients to allow a full clinical assessment.
These consultations predominantly happen in the clinic, along with a physical exam, but they can also take place over a phone or video call if appropriate, reducing the stress of bringing your pet into the clinic and carbon footprint of your journey.
Follow up consultations, where appropriate, will also be 20 minutes in length allowing time to review and discuss treatment plans.

Please remember that our consults last an average of 20 minutes, some may be shorter, some may be longer, and that a consultation start 2–5 minutes before you enter the room (as the vet has to read through relevant history) and ends 3–5 minutes after you have left the room whilst the vet records relevant information and dispenses medication required.
Nurse Consultations
At Mayne Vets we have a wonderful team of highly qualified, registered veterinary nurses.
Our nursing team has a vital role in providing the best possible care for you and your pet.
Our nurse consultations are also 20 minutes, allowing time for them to assist with ongoing treatments, nails clipping and anal gland empyting or help owners with the health and wellbeing of their pets assisting with weight clinics, mobility clinics and confidence clinics.
Some of these consultations are available in “bundles” to reduce the cost of ongoing treatment if required.

Annual Health Check and Vaccination
We recommend all pets receieve an annual health check to ensure they are fit and healthy as can be.
Alongside these health checks we may recommend vaccinations for dogs, cats and rabbits.
At Mayne Vets we rotate our annual dog and cat vaccination schedule on a three year basis to ensure pets only receive the vaccines they need.
We also offer titre testing for dogs and cats if clients would rather not vaccinate their pet.

Please note, that only a discount of £15 will be applicable to the price of vaccinations if signing up to the Wellness Club at the same time.
Prescriptions, Dispensing and Administration
We are always happy to provide written prescriptions to enable owners to buy medications online on request.
For pets receiving long term medications it may be cheaper to source this medication online.
We advise owners to check pharmacies are based in the UK and registered with the VMD.
Clients wishing to avoid benefiting corporation companies and support independent businesses, may want to check who owns the pharmacy they are purchasing from. Some of the largest veterinary phamcies are owned by corporate veterinary clinics.
